What is Bata?
The Bata drum is a two headed Yoruba drum that originated in the Oyo Empire of Nigeria. It was a drum that was coveted by Sango, and later came to be played by all of the Orisa. It is sacred, and powerful. Known to call down the Orisa quicker than any other drum due to it’s dynamic spiritual power. The Bata drum is a drum for healing, entertainment, ritual and to honor kings. Only those initiated to Ayan Agalu are truly able

to learn the secrets of this drum. Chief Awodi’s training stems from Iseyin, Oyo. The birthplace of this sacred drum.
